Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko has reportedly undergone a successful medical with Chelsea ahead of his proposed move later in the week.

The France international was one of the many standout performers for Monaco last season as they ended Paris Saint-Germain’s stranglehold on the title. Bakayoko was initially associated with a move to Old Trafford, but Antonio Conte managed to convince him to join the Blues with the assurance of regular first-team football.

According to The Express, the player has already had a series of medical tests with the west London giants, and the move will become official as early as Saturday – when the transfer window reopens. Monaco were initially said to have been playing hardball in negotiations over Bakayoko, but they have eventually agreed on a £35m sum in order to sell the former Rennes man.

Bakayoko is likely to accompany N’Golo Kante at the centre of the park with the former Leicester City man earning the PFA Player of the Year award for his brilliant showing in their Premier League triumph. This probably puts more pressure on the likes of Nemanja Matic and Cesc Fabregas with the former already linked with a potential reunion with Jose Mourinho at Manchester United.

Matic is said to have agreed personal terms over a £40m deal, and the move has been put on hold until Bakayoko is officially named as a Blues player. Chelsea are understood to have also wrapped up a Bosman move for goalkeeper Willy Caballerofollowing his release from Manchester City at the end of last season. The ex-City keeper is likely to play backup to Thibaut Courtois in the first-team squad while he could be offered a run in early stages of the Cup competitions. Chelsea are yet to resolve the position of Diego Costa, who is more or less leaving the club after he was deemed surplus to requirements under Conte.
