Chelsea lose unbeaten league run

Chelsea suffered their first Premier League loss of the season as they fell to a 1-0 defeat to Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday evening.

A goal from birthday boy Steven Naismith on the stroke of half-time secured all three points for the Toffees, to give Roberto Martinez his first league victory since taking charge in the summer.

New signing Samuel Eto’o was handed his debut, and had opportunities to get on the score-sheet but was denied on each occasion.

Juan Mata was handed just his second start of the season, but was replaced by Oscar after 57 minutes.

The club will now turn their attention to Wednesday evening’s Champions League group opener against FC Basel.

Meanwhile, the Blues new striker has admitted that he was close to securing a move to Arsenal at the beginning of the century, the Daily Star understands.

At the time, the Cameroonian was struggling to hold down a place at Real Madrid, but it was fellow La Liga side Mallorca who swept in to secure his services.

The four time African Player of the Year went on to have spells at Barcelona, Inter Milan and Anzhi Makhachkala before moving to Stamford Bridge last month.
