Chelsea forward Romelu Lukaku has welcomed the prospect of linking up with Wayne Rooney next season should the Blues be successful in their pursuit of the England international, the Daily Star understands.
The forward, who spent last season on loan with West Bromwich Albion, has been on good form in the Blues pre-season tour scoring twice in as many games, and has been hailed as a potential starter for next season by manager Jose Mourinho.
Should Rooney arrive at Stamford Bridge, he would face further competition, with Fernando Torres and Demba Ba also still at the club.
However, the 20 year old does not feel threatened, saying he would welcome Rooney “with open arms” should he sign, suggesting that he could even play alongside him.
Elsewhere, Kevin De Bruyne has returned to England following the injury he sustained in the 4-1 win over a Malaysia XI in Kuala Lumpur.
Jose Mourinho had initially said that the injury didn’t seem too serious, though after further tests he has been sent home.
Meanwhile, Nathaniel Chalobah is likely to spend next season out on loan, Sky Sports understands.
The 18 year old, who is yet to make his first senior appearance for Chelsea, enjoyed a successful campaign at Watford last time around.
Mourinho is a big fan of the England under 21 international, but feels he would benefit from one more season out on loan.
