After joining the Blues for a transfer fee that could amount to £18m in the future, plenty was expected of striker Romelu Lukaku. However, the 19-year-old has failed to make an impression at Stamford Bridge and with that, Blues chiefs are looking to send him out on loan to gain valuable experience. According to his agent, this loan move should come in the near future, with talks over a deal with an unnamed top flight club progressing.
In fairness to Lukaku, the Belgium-born striker was brought in for his potential and few people expected him to have an immediate impact at Chelsea. Bearing this in mind, Blues supporters are unlikely to be worried about his lack of first team action and many already think that a loan move is the best thing that could happen to the youngster.
Newspaper reports over recent weeks have been linking the player with a move to Fulham. However, his agent, Christophe Henrotay, has denied this is the case, although has admitted that his client is close to joining another club. He told the press, “I can assure you that Romelu is not going to Fulham. I am currently finalising the details with another Premier League club. Romelu will go on loan. I cannot say which team he will join, or when it will happen, but things are progressing.”
Following on from Henrotay’s comments, rumours have sufficed that Stoke could be the destination for the striker. Supporters have also known for some time that the possibility of Lukaku joining a club abroad is out of the question, with the player stating that he wants to gain experience in England. As of yet, the former Anderlecht man has only made twelve appearances in England and has made Chelsea’s starting eleven on just one occasion. Having featured so sparingly, it will be no surprise to hear that the player is still awaiting his first goals in English football.
